I started doing hair when I was a little girl. My sister and I would play with Barbies and she would pretend Barbie and Ken were getting married and I would be sewing Barbie clothes and fixing Barbie's hair. From there it moved to my aunts, grandmothers, sister and mom. I would end up getting volunteered to do a home perm or brush and curl someone's hair. It has always been something I have had a knack for and I like it.

In 1989 I met the man of my dreams and we married 7 weeks later. He was in the Marine Corps. Now we have 2 daughters and August '09 will be our 20th anniversary. Shortly after our first daughter turned 2 I decided to go back to college. I thought about computers and hair. My thought was I have always liked doing hair and with a Marine husband and the possibility of going all over the world, everyone in the world gets their hair done somewhere, somehow. In 1994 I graduated from Craven Community College with an associates degree and a cosmetology license.

I worked at JCPenny's salon in the New Bern mall until our second daughter came along. Shortly after she was born, the marine corps transferred us to Chicago,Ill in the middle of winter. I focused on raising my girls during that 3 year duty station but was still doing hair for my neighbors. Our next stop after Chicago was Beaufort,SC. We lived there for 7 years and in that time I worked at 3 very different salons. The first was a new shop for the owner and her daughter was the receptionist. This didn't work well. After a year at Lucy's Hair Artistry I then literally went across the street to JaimiElaine's. Jaime and his mom Elaine had turned a once family run restaurant into a cave-like beauty shop. I learned a lot from them. She didn't believe advertising worked. She complained often about how slow it was. Next she painted the entire inside a dove grey. Sounds pretty, but wasn't. It was always dark in there. Nice people, bad with business. After putting up with that for nearly 2 years I moved down the street a bit more to Mystic Blu and worked with my mentor in business, Mary Holliday. Yes that is her name. Thru various situations and circumstances I was given the responsibility of running the shop mostly out of necessity but I learned so much from her as a person and by being a stylist and shop manager while she went thru some trying times. I loved working with Mary at Mystic Blu and was heartbroken when I found out my husband's job was transferring us to North Carolina. As all things are, have been and will be, this was meant to be.

We found a house and moved here the last day of February 2006. By April I had become very sick from toxic mold in the house and didn't go back to work until September of '06. I finally went to work at Beauty Express and was getting myself back in the business. That next month I woke up with two names for a shop, even though I had no plans to have my own shop. Apparently God had plans though. By November 9 I'd had enough of some negativity there and went looking for another salon to work in. That very same day I found a shop for sale. Out of curiosity I inquired as to what the selling price was. That next Friday I handed the owner of Mane Event a check and I was now a salon owner. Holy cow. I even had a name.. oh yeah.. the names. Well you know one. Thairapy! The other name I truly feel my guiding angels gave to me just out of humor was The Exorscissorist. Let me help exor scissor ist.
Now you know why it's named Thairapy. So here we are. Thairapy Salon, "The place to go for all our hair issues." After 18 months my dream of having day spa actually came to be. I moved down a few doors as the space opened up and rented two spots instead of one and added space for massage and facials and body wraps. My vision for this place, this space is to be one of healing. Just offering a smile and a listening ear (that does not speak) or a shoulder and hugs can help so much but I envision more for my clientele. I want to offer tools and means by which they can become healthier physically, emotionally and thus spiritually. It is all growing into what it is to become one step at a time. God has blessed me beyond my wildest dreams with what I can do for people. I want everyone to know how beautiful they are, truly. When people can really see for themselves how wonderfully and divinely loved they are it is healing. It opens their hearts and minds to seeing they are perfect in their imperfections and accepting and loving themselves, which in turn opens hearts to loving others. Be the change you wish to see in the world. The change in we begins in me. I have started where I am and God takes it from there. That is the mission and purpose of Thairapy Salon and
